Functions of the Department

1.-In order to carry out the functions attributed to him in the Statutes of Autonomy, Government Law and other legal provisions, the Lehendakari will be assisted by the areas that form part of the President's Department of the Government, the structure and functions of which will be determined by Decree. The President's Department has been assigned the following areas of activity:

a) Assist the Lehendakari in the work of coordinating the actions of the Government.
b) Relations and communications with Parliament, the Ombudsman and in inter- institutional matters.
c) Promote and develop corporation, coordination and joint planning and articulate the work of the institutions of the Basque Country.
d) The design and application of the procedures of the Basque Government in the definition, coordination and implementation of public policies.
e) The policy of development and coordination, for this purpose, of the activities of the Departments at an autonomous community level.
f) The Government Secretariat.
g) The Official Government Gazette of the Basque Country.
h) Government Spokesperson.
i) Information and communications policy of the Government in relations with the media, as well as new technologies and multimedia production.
j) Social and institutional relations.
k) Government policy in issues relating to European Affairs, Cross-border and Inter-regional Cooperation and Basque Communities and Centres.
l) Policy of representation and projection of the Basque Country abroad.
m) Policy of equality of opportunity in gender-related issues.

2.-The Basque Council of Science, Technology and Innovation is attached to the President's Department under the terms stipulated in Decree 1/April 17 2007.

3.-The autonomous administrative body Emakunde-Basque Institute for Women, is attached to the President's Department.

4.-For budgetary purposes, the President's Department of the Government shall be considered the Department.
