The event comprises around 30 towns from Bizkaia
European Conferences on Heritage
BIZKAIA
Once again, the regional council of Bizkaia has been responsible for arranging the European Conferences on Heritage. Heritage of rural life and traditional trades is the name for a series of guided tours, conferences, exhibitions and special activities that have been planned to carry out in around 30 towns from Bizkaia. For starters, Balmaseda is known for its typical "putxera" –beans-, which will be at the tourists' disposal and Boinas La Encartada Museum that is open to the public. Secondly, guided tours around the Old Town of Bilbao will show the visitors the origin of the names of the emblematic streets. What's more, the former Ironmongery in Ea is also open to the public and Elorrio will welcome those who want to learn about its mills, farmhouses and washhouses. Gamiz-Fika has an important heritage element that is Errotabarri windmill. Those who approach the area will have the chance to learn how it works.

It should be mentioned that throughout October Gernika-Lumo will be holding endless fairs that deserve to be attended. Discovering the church of Santa Maria and traditional fishing in Lekeitio, observing a smith work in Maruri-Jatabe and taking part in "Flower Games" in Mungia -the town that recalls over 100-year old customs- are some of the many options at the visitors' disposal. As for Ondarroa, the coastal town offers the chance to see bailing machines working and those who love chestnuts, must approach Orozko -where they show how they picked, stored and ate chestnuts in ancient times. To sum up, there is a wide range of activities thanks to which we will go back in time and uncover the rural life in detail.
