>Network of Basque Technology parks
The Basque Country has a technology park in each historic territory. The parks are a statement to the region's determination to create infrastructure strategies which facilitate new business initiatives. They are endowed with state of the art infrastructures and are designed to promote research and development and its transfer to business.
The technology parks are located close to the three Basque capitals and each acts as a magnet for the firms and researchers within their sphere of influence.
The Zamudio Technology Park is close to Bilbao and houses 175 firms involved mostly in electronics and telecommunications, the environment and aeronautics.
The Miñano Technology Park is near Vitoria and stands out for its focus on aeronautics and energy, and has near 100 firms.
The companies located in San Sebastian's Miramón Technology Park are active in environmental technologies, telematics, advanced materials and medical technology, among other areas
The parks employ 11,000 professionals, 30% of which are engaged in R&D projects.
A new high added-value infrastructure, the Garaia Innovation Pole, is to join the Basque technology park network in January 2006.
