The Basque Country currently offers state-of-the-art lines ranging from 200 bits/second, 64 bits/second and 34 Mbits/second - suitable for transferring data, pro Internet, Intranet and fax, etc. There is a wide range of telecommunications companies, which ensures a high level of competition for Internet access and services related to telecommunications via cable - in other words, an integrated service. In addition to conventional telephone infrastructure, the Basque Country is equipped with optical fibre networks, Flat Rate services are offered and ISDN and broadband are fully integrated into the communications system.
A Basque Government initiative known as Konekta Zaitez! (Get connected) and administered by the company SPRI, has helped the region to become the second in ranking in Spain in terms of the percentage of homes with Internet connection (43.1%).
